Kirkcudbright Swimming Pool has made it to the final stage of the Big Lottery’s ‘Jubilee Peoples Millions’. Due to the cost of fuel/energy a funding bid has been put in to have solar panels installed in order to combat and reduce increasing fuel costs which have a huge financial impact on our charity run pool.
We already have had a wood burning bio-mass boiler fitted and combined with the addition of solar panels we would be well on our way to a greener and more sustainable future which would also lower the pool’s carbon footprint.
The pool needs long-term solutions to help protect it’s future as it caters for a huge variety of people with varying needs and faces the constant threat of increased utility bills and overheads.
The staff and volunteers are extremely excited at the prospect of being on the TV and hope that it will highlight the amount of work that goes into running and maintaining a community based pool.
We will be up against a project in the Borders which I’m sure will be well supported by their local community therefore we are appealing to as many people as possible to vote for us to protect our pool. We will be very grateful for votes from the whole of the region as although we are based in Kirkcudbright we serve a much wider customer base.
We are naming our project ‘The Solar Solution’ and are hoping for as much support as possible to help us swim into the future with our ‘Solar Solution’.
Jubilee Millions will be aired on Monday 27th June, on Border News and a short film about the pool will be shown. The public will then be invited to vote for the project they want the most and can get the phone number on the 27th June by going to www.peoplesmillions.org.uk or www.kirkcudbrightswimmingpool.co.uk
