Bunting for Justice
World record for World Fair Trade Day! On World Fair Trade Day 14th May an amazing 3,427.94 metre (over 2 mile) line of Fairtrade cotton bunting hung in Battersea Park, London, in a Guinness World Record attempt. Kirkcudbright contributed a wonderful 262 colourfully decorated triangles to this display of over 130,000 flags, supporting Fairtrade and in particular the cotton farmers of 4 of Africa’s poorest countries fighting against unfair subsidies. A big thank you to all who took part in this creative petition in support of Fairtrade and trade justice in cotton. The Fairtrade Foundation is now in the process of submitting this world record bid to Guinness for their approval
Coffee Morning 12th March
During Fairtrade Fortnight 2011 we held a well-attended coffee morning where the Fairtrade chocolate fondue was a great success.
Renewal of Fairtrade town status
As part of the renewal process members of the Kirkcudbright Fairtrade group will be visiting shops and businesses in Kirkcudbright in the next few weeks to update the Fairtrade Directory and are hoping for lots of additions to the list of those offering Fairtrade on their premises. If you are now using or offering Fairtrade products and would like to be in the directory please contact Mary van Zwanenberg or Katherine Hulatt.
